School Lockdowns in Calgary
Hello, I am new to this site, but I needed a place to vent, and this site seemed appropriate. I was just listening to the "news" on the radio here at work and heard them mention that two Calgary schools have been locked down in Calgary today. The reason given? "Authorities would not divulge" that information at this point! Now, my daughter is not yet of age to attend any grade schools, but if she were in one of those schools, I would be absolutely outraged at having her forcibly confined for any reason at all. As mentioned elswhere on this site, this ignores our "flight or fight" instincts and instead put our fate entirely in the hands of authorities whom we must trust wholeheartedly. We cannot sacrifice freedom for safety no matter how dire the situation. My biggest issue was how this government mouthpiece so casualy reported this with no reason given and then we are just suppost to continue about our day like good little sheep. I do not envy the parents of those children, and I certainly hope we can all change these policies at least before my children attend schools in this country. Comments anyone?

Have you spoken to your school trustees? Have you looked at the mechanisms that put school trustees into their positions? If the trustees are not responsive to the community then it is up to the community to replace them.
